The Mayor’s Data Team implements Mayor Garcetti’s data strategy for the City of Los Angeles. We work with city departments, the civic tech community, sister cities, private partners, and academics to develop insights and digital tools that make the City more livable and equitable for all Angelenos.
Lilian Coral, Chief Data Officer, Director of Mayor’s Data Team
Lilian Coral joined the Office of Mayor Eric Garcetti, after having spent the previous 15 years working on a wide range of health and human services issues as an advocate and executive leader. After working with labor unions, NGOs, foundations, and human service agencies at all levels of government, she felt inspired to apply her experience to re-imagining how government uses data and technology to serve its citizens. Most recently, as the founding Director of 2–1–1 California, she led a network of 26 non-governmental organizations, connecting more than 33 million Californians to critical resources. Ms. Coral hold a master’s degree in public policy from UCLA and is a native of Colombia, where much of her inspiration for innovation and social justice emerged.
Leah Horgan, Design Fellow
Leah Horgan is a Design Fellow for the Mayor’s Data Team. She handles web design and management and designs outreach materials and UX experiences for the team's digital assets. Leah is also working as a researcher through the Informatics PhD program at UC Irvine studying Civic Tech and Innovation. Prior to joining the Data Team and the PhD program, Leah studied for two years in the Media Design Program at Art Center College of Design. Beforehand, she worked as a Design and Communications Associate and as an executive assistant for over three years with Policy Group in MIT’s Poverty Action Lab.
Sari Ladin, Analytics and Digital Strategy
Arnold Fellow, Ash Center for Governance and Innovation at Harvard Kennedy School
Sari Ladin provides strategic analysis on current and upcoming analytics initiatives that leverage City data to address the most pressing challenges residents face. She also elevates the exciting data initiatives happening across the City to the national conversation through her articles for Harvard’s Data Smart Cities, Government Technology, and the DataLA blog on Medium. Prior to her move out West, Sari worked as a data analyst for the Massachusetts Department of Labor Standards where she developed her passion for sharing valuable data with the public. She’s also provided data analysis, budgeting, and policy recommendations to a range of public and nonprofit clients including the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and the Nonprofit Finance Fund. Sari holds a Master's Degree in Public Policy from the University of California, Berkeley.
Jeremy Molayem, Water and Sustainability
Bechtel Data Fellow
Jeremy Molayem is the Water Data Fellow for the Mayor’s Data Team. Prior to joining the Data Team, Jeremy worked as an Assistant Engineer for the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California. Jeremy also researched the water-energy nexus at USC's Sustainable Systems Group and ultrafine particulate matter (PM) generated from L.A. Metro light rail in USC's Aerosols Lab. With the City, Jeremy has played key roles in redesigning the Sustainability Performance dashboard, launching the City's real-time web analytics dashboard, and is working on a real-time monitor for the City’s stormwater capture efforts. Jeremy holds a B.S. and M.S. in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Southern California.
Chelsea Ursaner, Open Data and Solutions Implementation
Chelsea's focus is making data accessible to city employees and the public. She holds a Master of Science in Business Analytics from USC Marshall School of Business. Prior to becoming an Angeleno, she worked at Epic, a healthcare software company in Madison, Wisconsin. There she developed a core belief that software should be a delight to use and a passion for implementation and training. As such, she loves receiving input to improve the open data portals, data.lacity.org and geohub.lacity.org. Please reach out!
